7 Ways to Get Over Your Fears and Avoid Regret

Too many people have reached the end of their lives regretting that they’ve never tried the things they were truly passionate about. Sometimes, you get stuck in a routine or cycle that you become so afraid of leaving it, thinking that there could only be worse things to happen. Breaking the cycle will help you understand that there are bigger opportunities waiting for those who dare to change their routine. It’s better to have tried and failed than to forever wonder what if you did it. Here are 7 ways to avoid regret.

 

1. Let go of everything. You are in control of yourself. No one else can force you to do things or tell you what can or cannot be done. If you truly want to experience success, you need to let go of all the emotional and psychological burdens and start on a clean slate. Forget about past mistakes and regrets and tell yourself that this is a new challenge that gives you even ground to start on. Spend 15 to 30 minutes meditating and focusing on the tasks at hand and mentally erase all distractions.

 

2. Find your fears. Most people do not embark on the path to success because they do not know the things that they are afraid of. Get a piece of paper and start writing down what’s keeping you from starting anything. Some of the things that can be written include lack of money, lack of motivation, fear of losing your job, getting in conflict with family, etc.

 

3. Face your fears. As soon as you identify all your fears, you can now start to find solutions on how to face these. Your fears can be eliminated, no matter how long these have been lingering. The fact is you haven’t spent any time trying to change how you feel about your fears, which is why these are still present until now. If you want to experience success, you have to be courageous and brave enough to overcome your biggest obstacles. The solutions to these fears will take some time and effort.

 

4. The consequences are temporary. The feeling of fear and the associated consequences, are only temporary. But if you choose not to do anything at all, you will find that the regret you feel will stay with you for the rest of your life. Do not feel overwhelmed by the possibility of feeling embarrassment or having to suffer the consequences if you fail in your task. The fact is that there are still solutions to your situation. If you stick to your cycle throughout, you might not experience failure but you will not enjoy success either.

 

5. Think of the rewards. Instead of dwelling on the thoughts of failing and all your fears, you should learn how to re-focus and think about the rewards instead. Optimism is very much needed for success. You should continue to motivate yourself that the challenges you’re facing are only temporary and once you reach your goals, you will experience newfound confidence that you never thought you had. You will feel better about yourself and learn how to embark on bigger challenges later on. New opportunities will unfold as soon as you reach your goals. Visualization is a great tool for motivation.

 

6. Find a friend. Try to look for one or more persons who can help you get over the fears. Your buddy might be a best friend, a parent or a colleague who can advise and give you emotional support when you feel like giving up. These people will serve as your support system who will remind you that the fear is only temporary and there are certainly reasons why you should eliminate these to move on to what you really need to accomplish.

 

7. Resilience and dedication. Even if you do face your fears and start your journey to success, there is never a guarantee that you will be successful in the end. Failures will always be a part of life, but the great lesson is maintaining the drive and attitude that will help you rise again and keep aiming for the goal. You need to be disciplined and dedicated enough to focus on the challenges and remind yourself that nothing can stand between you and success.
